The Best of Bilbao

Market La Ribera
Built in 1929, this three floor building is the largest indoor market in Bilbao. The building is Art Deco in style with stunning stained glass windows and a huge clear ceiling which allows the light to flood in. Located in the historic old town, there has been trading on this site since back in the 14th Century. Whether you come here to read, dine or listen to live jazz, you cannot miss this lively landmark.
The Guggenheim
Without doubt, the most iconic of all places and a must-see. Frank Gehry's building itself is a modern architectural marvel made from 33,000 sheets of titanium that sparkle in the Spanish sunshine. As you make it inside, you are faced with art collections by the greats - Richard Serra and Yayoi Kusama - as well as instillations and immersive experiences. You can also see Jeff Koon's puppy scupture or Louise Borgeois's "Maman" spider. It cannot fail to inspire.
The Old Town
Explore the cobbled streets and historic past of this vibrant city. There are famously the seven streets of the original medieval town that you can wander which will take you back in time.
The Basilica of Begona
Nestled in the hills, this is a major pilgrimage site and architectural beauty. If you like panoramic views, this is the place to visit. It took YEARS to build (not quite on the level of the Sagrada Familia) but still took 100 years to complete from when it was begun in the 16th Century. The building displays Renaissance, Gothic and Neo Classical styles.
Puente de la Salve
Meaning "Princess of Spain" this landmark is iconic of the city. A unique cable stayed design, it connects the centre of the city to the suburbs.
San Mamés Stadium
For football enthusiasts and anyone interested in modern sporting architecture - this is incredible. The innovative design and extraordinary integration within the city makes this totally unique. Known as the "Cathedral of Football", it is believed to be the most vibrant stadium in the world.
