What’s the difference between a bracelet and a bangle?

A bracelet can be created from a multitude of materials such as Gold, Sterling Silver, Gemstones, Beads, or Rope. Bracelets are flexible and fasten with a clasp or stretched with elastic. In comparison, a bangle is classed as a solid, rigid, circular shape of metal. They are either a complete circle, that slip easily over the hand or wrist, or have an opening in the circle, or a hook clasp to allow to securely fit onto the wrist.

Bangles have a classic circular design and can be created in different metals, widths, and weights. You are able to buy full solid bangles that go all the way around the wrist, split bangles which have a slight gap, hook fastening bangles and cuff bangles that are chunkier than the traditional bangle style.

What is the typical bracelet size?

The most typical and popular bracelet size is around 7 inches (18cm). Small bracelets are around 6 inches (15cm) whereas larger sizes go up to 9 inches (23cm). Bracelets should sit between the base of your hand and your wrist bone but if you have small or large wrists, you should try and measure your wrist size before buying a bracelet. These measurements are fairly similar to bangle sizes but it’s also important to take the widthof the bangle into account if you’re buying a thick or chunky bangle.
