There really is no better way to distract ourselves from everything that is going on at the moment than a wonderful book. During this extraordinary time, we’ve tried to think of several effective escapism methods for all of us to try out (some easier than others). If you’re still at work, home schooling, working from home, job juggling – and everything in between, we’re going to try and help keep you sane. To kick this off, here is a list of all our favourite books at the moment. Put your feet up, kettle on and settle into one of them.
Where the Crawdads Sing | Delia Owens
Transport yourself to 1969 and get lost in this fabulous book. We did. Owens perfectly and emotionally dictates a moving coming of age story filled with love, lust and heartbreak. And in case that wasn’t enough, she throws in some unsuspecting deaths. We can assure you that this is an absolute must for your trusty bookshelf.
Nine Perfect Strangers | Liane Moriarty
Not only was this wonderful book voted Number 1 Sunday Times Bestseller, it’s a wickedly smart, page turner. Get ready to try and unravel this year’s best (well we think so) crime thriller book.
The Guest List | Lucy Foley
Voted crime book of the month by The Times, this is the ultimate hard-to-put-down novel (we can vouch for that…). Set on a small island, a bride and groom are celebrating what they thought would be the best day of their lives. Little did they know that a dead body would more than just ruin their special day. Gripping already, we know.
To the Lions | Holly Watt
Always wanted to know the inside scoop of an investigative reporter? Look no further. From London to Libya, insightful and captivating, Watt’s novel takes you from the glitz of St-Tropez to the deserts of Libya and on to the very darkest corners of the human mind.
The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse | Charlie Mackesy
If, like us, you are looking for some positive thoughts to help block out all the negative, we could not recommend Mackesy’s book more. Filled with heart warming illustrations and words, you will not be able to put it down. We promise.
Normal People | Sally Rooney
An all time favourite here at Auree HQ. Sally Rooney perfectly encapsulates class struggles, the intricate dynamics of family relationships and the sacrifice of friendship. It really is a love story like no other.
Queenie | Candice Carty Williams
Longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2020, need we say more? A captivating novel exploring what it means to be a modern woman in a modern world. An absolute must for all those book worms out there.
